The Beauty of Completeability
On the last day of our gathering, we announced the ending of the Wittenberg 2017 initiative. Our leadership team had made this difficult decision in 2016. One important verse for us was John 17:4 ...
“I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.” This is an astounding verse. Even the Son of God did not have an unlimited task. The Father gave Him a completeable task. How much more so will He give us, being much more limited, tasks that are completeable. Thomas Cogdell (Protestant / Free Church) coined a new English word for this in his talk: The Beauty of Completeability. |
Amy Cogdell (Roman Catholic) then described the completeable task that Jesus had – to manifest the name of the Father (John 17:6). She connected this with Exodus 33 & 34:
Then Moses said, “Show me Your glory” … And the Lord said, “I will proclaim my name ...” And of course this brings us back to John 17! I have given them the glory that you gave me. One aspect of the glory the body of Christ is given, is to manifest the name of the Lord. This is truly a gift! And it is not an unending task - it is given to us in specific, completeable tasks. Hallelujah! |

Commissioning The Next GenerationJohn 12:24 was the other verse that our leadership team heard in 2016 when discerning God's call to end the initiative:
... unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Our hope was that with the ending of Wittenberg 2017, God would bring new life and launch a variety of new reconciliation initiatives. So throughout 2016 and 2017, we were praying for God to draw young people to the gathering. One of the true blessings that God gave us was to answer this prayer, far beyond what we could have ever expected. The youth came! |
We ended the gathering, and the entire initiative, with a commissioning service. We asked God to call forth the next generation of Godly reconcilers, and commission them for His work of preparing the Bride for the Wedding Feast.
So Wittenberg 2017 ended beautifully - with the generations blessing, commissioning, and praying for one another.
What will result from these prayers in months, years, and decades to come?
Only God knows!

The commissioning service was led by clergy and leaders from all major streams: Messianic Jewish, Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic, mainline Protestant, Anabaptist, Anglican, and Pentecostal / Free Church. They joined together to thank the Lord, to repent, and to commit anew to the unity of the Body.
